Research, Design & Reflection

Animator vs Animation

Fun two part animation. I'm not sure exactly who made it because it's available on tons of sites although it could be albino blacksheep or stickpage from what I could make out. Not sure why it doesn't have sound. If your gonna watch it find a version with sound, it's more interesting.

Theory in to Practive

I've been aimlessly learning css techniques and the basics of javascript for the past few weeks and I think putting it in to practice will speed up the learning process. Plus, it can be a bit boring doing tutorial after tutorial with nothing to show for it.

Starting today I'm planning to design and implement my own site that will act as my blog and portfolio. I'm going to learn things as they are required and it will be something I can continuously update and change as I develop more skills and feel that I can improve it.

CrazyTalk5

I found this animation software the other day, apparently it's already quite popular. It lets you import any static portrait image of someones face (could even be an animal or a character you have designed) and map the points around their facial features. You can then add audio files and it will automatically pick up the pheonetics of the speech and lipsync the character. Alternatively you can just type a script within the interface and it will lipsyn to that. You can also make detailed facial movements and expressions and it moves like a character that has been modelled in 3D software.

These recordings can be edited on it's own timeline and exported as a video clip. I reckon you could create some really good content for the web using CrazyTalk and flash. There's a free 15 day trial available, so when I have some time I plan to experiment with it and hopefully post some files.

Centering with CSS for IE6

This had me really confused and within 10 minutes of putting my mouse through my computer screen, so I thought I would post it to remind myself next time.

I was trying to centre the main division that enclosed all the other divisions in a html document, but it wasn't working for no apparent reason. After searching on google I found that it was a bug with IE6 (the browser I have a work). To fix it you have to add a text-align style to both the body and the division. I still have no idea why but it works.

I still have no idea why my embedded swf files won't display in IE6 because as far as I know they work in all other browsers.
